The results of VLBI observations of the quasar 3C 454.3 are presented. The peculiarities of 3C 454.3 are examined in relation to the general properties of other superluminal sources. Attempts to explain these peculiarities are discussed, including the bulk relativistic motion model (Blandford and Koenigl, 1979) and the model of excitation of ejected stream by steady shocks (Liang and Cui, 1981 and Lind and Blandford, 1985).
