Using a volume-limited sample of ~7,000 early-type galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) we derive parameters based on Principal Component Analysis applied to the SDSS spectra. These parameters are highly sensitive to Recent Star Formation (RSF), as found both using synthetic models and galaxies with NUV photometry from GALEX. The dependence of environment on the presence of recent star formation is investigated in the groups catalogue of Yang et al. (2007). The sample is separated either with respect to stellar mass (representing an ``intrinsic'' observable) or halo mass (as a proxy for environment). We find environment plays a secondary role, whereas stellar mass is strongly correlated with the stellar populations.
