An operational profile describes how users employ a system. We apply this technique aiming at an effort reduction in both time and cost on the process of validation and integration of the X-ray imager software embedded in the MIRAX satellite mission payload. Once the scientific goals of the payload instrument are well defined by the mission principal investigators, the operation profiles help engineers and software designers to identify the payload development resources and testing workbench to guarantee that the instrument and its operation meet the scientific requirements. One benefit is to reuse some test facilities designed to support the incremental development of the payload instrument functionalities on further satellite mission operations. Another benefit is the system growth in reliability, since testing driven by operational profiles helps to anticipate failure identifications.
