The author is an active observer of minor planet occultation events, which he began observing from 1987, for the RASNZ Occultation Section. The author has had some prolific successes in observing these minor planet occultations with his equatorially driven Celestron 8 telescope from eastern Southland. Part One of his two-part article series describes the fortuitous circumstances of each of his first six successful minor planet occultations through to 1996, plus another observed occultation event by the same asteroid, ten years later in August 2001.
