Basic algorithms used in particle injection codes are discussed. An analytic formula and Monte Carlo method for producing a system of simulation particles are described. The injection of the particle beam into the simulation box and the calculation of the velocities of the injected particles are examined; the injecting of a shaped beam and a pulsed injection into the simulation box is considered. The significance of the boundary conditions on the fields and the drift speed of the particle is investigated.
