Broadband electrons are remarkable flux enhancements of precipitating electrons over a broad energy range (0.03-30 keV) near the equatorward edge of the auroral oval during geomagnetic storms. These flux enhancements were initially reported using particle data of the DMSP satellites. However, the DMSP satellites did not measured pitch angle distribution of precipitating electrons. We investigated broadband electrons using data from the FAST satellite, which measures pitch angle distribution of auroral particles, electric field, magnetic field, and waves simultaneously. More than 10 broadband electron events were identified from the electron energy spectra obtained by the FAST satellite during 81 geomagnetic storms between September 1996 and March 2004. In the previous studies, we showed that pitch angle distribution of broadband electrons was isotropic at a higher energy range above ~1 keV during the broadband electron event of July 15, 2000. At a lower energy range below ~1 keV, field-aligned electron fluxes tended to be higher than the perpendicular fluxes. Intense fluctuations of electric and magnetic field and enhanced low-frequency (0.016-16 kHz) waves were also observed during this event. From these results, we showed possible acceleration of lower energy part of the broadband electrons by Alfvén waves near the satellite altitude. Similar particle and field characteristics are seen during other broadband electron events. In the presentation, we report characteristics of broadband electrons for several events identified from the long-term observations by the FAST satellite.
