Particle acceleration by MHD oscillations generated in the ambient plasma around close binary systems is considered. The energy expended in particle acceleration by this mechanism is determined, along with the spectrum and maximum energy of the accelerated particles. The contribution that such binary systems would make to the total intensity of cosmic rays in the Galaxy is estimated. It is shown that the estimated 100 million close binaries in the Galaxy could supply about 1% of the energy expended in particle acceleration in the Galaxy, that the maximum particle energy would be approximately 1 GeV for parameters typical of novalike systems, and that the maximum particle energy would be 1000 GeV if the Fermi-acceleration mechanism is involved.
