An investigation is presented of the energy spectrum of particles accelerated near the X-point of the magnetic field during the development of the tearing-mode instability in the magnetotail current sheet. The dynamics of the spectrum at the linear and nonlinear stages of the instability is studied, and attention is given to the contribution to the energy spectrum of particles that move near the X-point due to drift in crossed electric and magnetic fields. The dynamics of the particle acceleration is modeled numerically, and the computational results are compared with those of a theoretical model.
