Partial molal volume data are reported for NaHCO 3 and NaHS up to 200°, derived from solution density measurements. A summary is given of molal volumes of ions of principal interest in natural hydrothermal equilibria. Examples are given of the use of these data to calculate the effect of pressure on equilibria involving ions (H 2 S, `H 2 CO 3 ' ionization; CaCO 3 , CaSO 4 solubility). In the latter case the agreement between the calculated and experimental solubility is very good to at least 250° and 1000 bars.
