In this paper are discussed the parametric instabilities that occur in
stars in close binary systems, when they are subjected to a periodic
disturbance. The constraint inherent in previous work that the star is
nearly spherical is relaxed. It is shown that, even when the star nearly
fills its Roche lobe, parametric destabilization of modes is possible.
