An analysis of Cosmos-1809 data indicates that the propagation of an intense VLF whistler through the ionosphere is accompanied by the generation of ELF waves and the acceleration of ionospheric ions. These results can be explained by assuming the acceleration of superthermal ions by electromagnetic ion-cyclotron waves excited in the ionospheric plasma in the presence of whislter parametric instability.
