The Infrared Processing and Analysis Center will provide pipeline operations and archival data access for the Palomar Transient Factory project. Nightly observations are relayed to IPAC from the 48-inch Oschin Schmidt telescope, where they are locally archived and registered in a database. Data reduction pipelines derived from heritage with the Spitzer and TERAPIX projects process the data on a nightly basis. Standard CCD calibrations such as flatfields and biases are generated and applied to the data. Images will be initially astrometrically and photometrically calibrated through the application of existing sky surveys such as the USNO and SDSS, with the intent of eventually extablishing a PTF-wide system of uniform internal calibrators ultimately tied to existing high quality calibration fields. Sources are detected and extracted from the resulting calibrated images, and different epochal detections are associated with each other to create catalogs that include a photometric time-history (light curves). Complete image and catalog data from the individual epochs are retained and are available. The external data interface will be through the IPAC Infra-Red Science Archive (IRSA), whose tools will allow both data retrieval and sophisticated catalog-based searches. Processed data volume is expected to be of order 100TB/year, with a final tally of some 40 billion epochal source detections.
