Palomar-Quest (PQ) synoptic survey obtained data over a period of 5 years. ending in Sep. 2008. Carried out using the Palomar 48-inch Schmidt telescope and a camera with 112 CCDs, PQ covered 500 sq. degrees on a typical good night in up to four filters. The epochs for the four filters were 3 minutes apart thereby providing baselines from minutes to years with PQ, and decades when combined with other observations. We describe the First Data Release of the Survey (PQ DR1). The release represents multi-filter multi-epoch images and catalogs, as well as coadded images for a contiguous 1000 sq. degrees (120 deg < RA < 240 deg, 11 deg < Dec < 20 deg). Three different filter sets were used including Johnson B, R, I and Gunn g, r, i, z bands. The total number of detections in DR1 is 170M with over 10M distinct objects, down to 21 mag in individual epochs (depending on filter). Coadding of images typically reaches the depths comparable to or greater than SDSS. The number of passes range from a few to several tens per pointing. We describe the different data products and access modalities. The procedures comply with the Virtual Observatory standards e.g. the catalogs get served using the CASJOBS interface and image cutouts through SIAP. Accompanying posters provide more details on photometric calibrations and selected initial scientific studies. The PQ survey is partially supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).
