Steady-synchrotron self-Compton models are investigated under the assumption of constant injection of monoenergetic relativistic particles in a compact source embedded in a magnetic field. The produced gamma-rays interact with target photons to yield relativistic electron positron pairs which radiatively cool before thermalizing and annihilating. When pairs are created by synchrotron photons, the process can be described by a model in which particles cool by scattering a given soft photon distribution, while when pairs are created by synchroton self-Compton photons, the bulk of the luminosity is produced at gamma-ray energies.
