In a normal P Cygni profile, an expanding atmosphere absorbs continuum photons from an inner core, leading to the well-known blue absorption + red emission pattern. In this paper we explore a variant of this classical problem, where the continuum source is replaced by a rapidly expanding region producing broad emission lines. Resonant scattering or destruction of the inner wind photons by outer wind atoms gives rise to a blueshifted absorption feature broken into three frequency intervals, while photons from the receding part of the outer wind are partially absorbed by the inner wind, leading to a redshifted absorption component. These features, seen atop broad and narrow emission components, produce complex structures in the line profiles.
