We report the discoverey two possible overdensities of galaxies at z 3.7 in the Candra Deep Field South (CDF-S) field.
These overdensities are identified using three different samples aimed at selecting 3.3 < z < 4.0 galaxies: a sample of Balmer break galaxies with red H-K colors, photometric redshift sample, and B-band dropout sample.
One over-density is found at 6-sigma level significance, near two AGNs at z = 3.66 and 3.7 and several LBGs at z = 3.7. We tentatively associated these z = 3.7 objects to the overdensity. The other over-density is found at 4-sigma significance level around five z 3.6 galaxies with spectroscopic redshifts with the line-of-sight velocity dispersion of sigma_v = 690 km/s, comparable to the line-of-sight velocity dispersions of clusters of galaxies today. Also, the SED fitting for some of the galaxies associated with the over-dense regions gives the stellar mass greater than > 1011 Msun, lending a futher support that these overdensities are proto-clusters at high redshift. Our result suggests that massive structures may be more common at high redshift than theoretical predictions.
