The recent detection of several Ultra-High-Energy cosmic rays (UHECR) beyond 100 EeV (1 EeV = 1018 eV) poses a challenge for the understanding of their sources. The extreme energies are difficult to obtain by any astrophysical source. Because of photomeson production due to interactions with the CMBR photons, protons loose substantial amounts of energy Delta E/E approximately equals 10-20% along their path to the Earth, leading to a theoretical cutoff of the primary spectrum at Emax approximately equals 5 x 1019 eV (Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin or GZK cutoff). A detailed calculation is thus needed to understand the propagation of UHE particles if we wish to pin up the sources.
