An analytical solution for the effects of continuous radial thrust when the thrust is a fixed fraction of the varying vehicle weight in orbit is obtained with emphasis on the orbital motion and mass loss. The solution is valid for any fixed value of the thrust-to-weight ratio and indicates that escape speed is attained when this ratio becomes greater than two. Formulas are found for the orbital motion and flight time along different trajectories and for mass loss due to rocket-propellant expenditure. A direct application of the solution to the problem of interplanetary transfer from the orbit of earth to that of Mars using solar radiation as a means of propulsion is considered.
