The paper presents the mathematical formulation of the problem of optimizing the azimuth orientation of ground-based gravitational-wave detectors integrated in a global network with the aim of searching for gravitational radiation from extraterrestrial sources. Particular attention is given to optimization of the system with reference to a search for sources in the Virgo Cluster.
