SIM PlanetQuest has several modes of operation, including Wide Angle, Narrow Angle, and Differential Wide Angle. The differential mode allows moderate (10 micro-arcsecond) precision without requiring grid-stars to reach this precision - a process that takes several years. We describe the science that we can accomplish in this mode, including astrometry of galactic black holes, x-ray binaries, and quasars. We show how the reference frame distribution affects the measurement precision and optimize the selection of the reference frame for several SIM targets.
