High angular resolution is a primary requirement to imaging systems for X-ray astronomy. This is obtained along with an accurate profile of focusing mirrors: however, the imaging quality can be also degraded by the X-ray scattering off reflecting surfaces, to an amount increasing with the energy. Achieving high angular resolution then entails a detailed calculation of the Point Spread Function expected from the figuring errors and microroughness in order to establish unambiguous tolerances. In this work we present a self-consistent method to process grazing incidence mirror metrology data to retrieve the imaging quality at any energy from UV to hard X-rays, simultaneously accounting for both figuring errors and roughness.
