The present study investigates the distribution of angular distances between optically variable (OV) quasars and bright galaxies (m not greater than 15.7). An excess (6 observed vs. 1.6 expected) of small angular distances has been found for a sample of 41 quasars from the list compiled by Grandi and Tifft (1973). The statistical significance of this excess is similar to that found for 3C quasars and bright galaxies and might come from OV radio quasars with a flat radio spectrum. More data are needed to decide whether or not this excess corresponds to a physical effect.
