In order to detect QSOs with redshift greater than 3.5, optical spectra were obtained for 15 faint QSO candidates. The identification was based on the accurate position of compact, flat-spectrum radio sources, using the concidence in position between the radio source and the optical object as the sole criterion in order to avoid optical selection effects. Six of the objects were found to have obvious emission line features which confirm them to be QSOs. The largest redshift was 3.45 for PKS 0335-122. Selection effects in the search for quasars with redshifts greater than 3.5 are discussed.
