The Precision Optical Research and Tracking Facility (PORTF) is the field optical site operated by the Directorate of Surveillance at Rome Laboratory (RL/OC). This report discusses the optical configuration of PORTF and practical optical component set-up considerations. Results are documented from computer analyses which simulate the complete primary optical system. Common alignment errors in the optical train and focal plane were investigated with a goal of determining allowable tolerances in the optomechanical alignment of the components. The tolerance limits may be used as a baseline during telescope alignment exercises to determine the alignment accuracies needed to produce acceptable images.
