Interferometers: Optical Design

Not only is an optical path length compensation system one of the most important parts, but also one of the most technically difficult parts for an optical interferometer. In this paper, some factors causing the optical path length in an optical interferometer are analysed. The principle and design requirements of the optical path length compensator are introduced. The construction of an experimental compensator is described.
