The paper describes an optical processor used for the formation of images of the radio sky from the signals of an unfilled aperture. Stability problems and unwanted background terms from the output signal are overcome by the switching arrangement in the Mach-Zehnder interferometer. When the recording medium is a light-valve device having a storage capability, real-time operation of the processor is possible. On the basis of experimental data it is found that the proposed procedure registers the amplitude and phase information required in a hologramlike structure of the spatial-frequency plane of the radio sky.
