Optical identifications and high-frequency spectral indices are obtained for a new sample of flat low-frequency spectrum radio sources stronger than 0.3 Jy at 1400 MHz in a study of the radio-optical luminosity correlation for compact extragalactic radio sources. Sources in the declination strip between +24 and +30 deg were observed at 2695 and 8085 MHz with the NRAO three-element interferometer, and most were identified from Palomar Sky Survey prints on the basis of accurate position coincidence. Sources in the survey identified with empty optical fields are noted to have relatively steep high-frequency spectra or spectra steepening with frequency. Radio-optical spectral indices, based on 1400-MHz and 1.2 x 10 to the 15th-Hz flux densities, are found to be significantly greater for radio sources with 2695, 8085-MHz spectral indices greater than or equal to 0.5 than for the median of those with 2695, 8085-MHz spectral indices less than 0.5, indicating an intrinsically higher optical to radio flux ratio in the flat high-frequency spectrum sources. Results thus suggest that the radio and optical luminosities of quasars may be correlated when averaged over time scales greater than about 50 years.
