Ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) may be stellar mass black holes in unusual accretion states or intermediate mass black holes. We describe optical and radio counterparts of several ULXs that indicate accretion powers larger than any Galactic X-ray binary. Variability in the optical demonstrates that a large fraction of the optical flux arises from reprocessing in the accretion disk. We discuss the implications of these results for interpretation of the physical nature of ULXs.
