We review the current state of knowledge of the optical variability of narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s). Studies show that NLS1s do not show more dramatic optical variability than non-NLS1s. Sub-diurnal variability is relatively rare. It is not possible to draw detailed comparisons with non-NLS1s because of the lack of adequate control samples.
