Nine non-Seyfert Markarian galaxies have been observed both with an RCA C 33011 image tube attached to the E spectrograph of the 120 cm telescope at the Haute Provence Observatory, and in the 21-cm line of neutral hydrogen with the Nancay radiotelescope. We confirm that this class of Markarian galaxies is not homogeneous, neither from the point of view of the integral properties or from the optical line intensities. Using their integral properties, a morphological type can be ascribed to seven of them, ranging from early spiral to irregular, if they are assumed to be overluminous; however, for two of them no morphological type is acceptable. The dynamical properties of two close pairs of Markarian galaxies are investigated: Ma 7-8 is unstable and Ma 325-326 is bound.
