The paper presents the results of a photometric study, carried out at discrete points along the principal apparent axes of three spiral galaxies: M 33, M 74, M 81. The brightness profiles in the UBVRI bands and the most significant colour indices versus the distance from the centre are shown. The measurements stress the two typical trends of the spiral galaxies: a disk component with radial surface brightness distribution of exponential type and a spheroidal component with R to the power -1/4 distribution. The B radial surface brightness distribution confirms the relation between the disk length scale (1/alpha) and the morphological type; furthermore the near constancy of 1/alpha on the whole range considered (0.3-0.9 micron) is evident. The analysis of the colour indices on the spiral arms of M 33 and M 74 gives evidence that the spiral structure trails.
