Accurate V-K colors of the brightest galaxies in eight X-ray clusters with and without accretion flows are compared in order to search for evidence of the stellar populations formed by the accreted gas. Published U-V and g-r data for accreting and nonaccreting clusters are also discussed, and a preliminary report on color gradients in one cluster, A496, is presented. Two other methods of detecting an accreting population are explored: brightening of the original galaxy and changes in the M/L ratio. Except for A496, the color data provide no evidence for star formation in any accreting cluster and no evidence the accreting gas is fueling a nonthermal nuclear source. The increase in galaxy luminosity expected from the accretion-formed population may be detected in A2029, but the dispersion in brightest cluster luminosities makes this uncertain.
