A ground-based attempt to measure the Sunyaev-Zeldovich (S-Z) effect at 1.15 mm wavelength is discussed. The relative advantages and the problems and limitations of such attempts in comparison to ground-based radio methods and to space-based millimeter-wave observation are assessed. It is concluded that, while millimeter-wave techniques in general have significant advantages over radio observations, the full exploitation of the S-Z effect as an observational tool demands space-based broadband millimeter-wave detectors.
