The thermal stability of slablike steady structures heated and cooled by radiative processes, including opacity effects, is studied. The analysis of the particular case when the opacities associated with the heating and cooling mechanisms are equal, has been carried out quasi-analytically. The general case when the opacities of the heating and cooling radiation are different is numerically studied. Generally, the results suggest that the effect of increasing the opacity is reflected in an increase of the thermal stability of the steady structures.
