The planned INSAT-II communication satellite uses three IR scanning earth sensors for attitude determination and control during its transfer orbit and on-orbit phases of operation. Though the system is under torsional vibration, it can also vibrate in the transverse direction under the bending mode. This paper discusses the bending mode vibrations, their frequencies, and the effect of forcing frequencies existing elsewhere on the spacecraft. Design considerations instituted in order to avoid failure of the system due to resonance induced by the vibrations are examined.
