The problem of dependence of thickness variations of the Martian elastic lithosphere on variations of the crust thickness has been examined within the framework of a simple model. At high values of surface temperature gradients the lithosphere thickness increases and has essential variations. Thinnest lithosphere is characteristic for the regions with a thick crust, and the regions with a thin crust are characterized by a thick lithosphere. The best agreement with modern data on the regional distribution of the Martian lithosphere thickness is found for a crustal temperature gradient ≡10 K/km.
