Emission Nebulae: Bow Shocks

Scientific paper

NGC 2359 is composed of a spherical inner shell and a fainter U-shaped outer arc seen in optical image. The WN star HD 56925 is harbored inside the filamentary shells. So far, theoretical models that have been proposed often emphasize the inner bubble, leaving the nature of the outer parabolic arc not clearly known. Here the authors propose the possibility that the outer arc of NGC 2359 is a bowshock structure other than simply a photoionization front of the clouds which happen to enclose a parabolic cavity around the WN star. The authors consider two cases in which either HD 56925 or another star is responsible for the bowshock structure.
