We explore whether the systematic difference between asteroseismological
and spectroscopic masses in PG 1159--type stars can be understood in
terms of uncertainties in mass-loss rates and/or third dredge-up
efficiencies in the TP--AGB. We find that neither of them can account
for the discrepancy.
