Radio and optical observations of galactic supernova remnants (SNR) were compared in order to obtain information on the reliability of the surface brightness-diameter (Sigma-D) correlations proposed by different authors of SNR catalogs. Statistical diameters derived by Ilovaisky and Lequeux (1972) are found to be most reliable, while the catalogs of Milne (1970), Downes (1971), and Clark and Caswell (1976) present systematic errors in the statistical diameter determination
