A simple model according to which the mass distribution of impactors striking a target is a power law is here applied to cratering due to planetesimals in the solar system. Probability distributions are derived for such quantities as the largest impactor mass relative to the total mass of impactors, and the nth-largest impactor relative to the largest. The model is also used to study the distribution of giant impacts that are likely to occur in planet formation.
