On the basis of high-dispersion spectra and other observational material, HD 200775 is reanalyzed using ι Her as a comparison star. By comparing the depths in the wings of Hγ and Hδ and the equivalent widths of He I lines with predictions from model atmospheres we find Teff =17000±1000 K (in the scale of Kurucz' 1979 models) and log g [cm-2] = 3.6±0.3 corresponding to a spectral type of B 3 V. This is consistent with the continuum energy distribution if one allows for some circumstellar emission The interstellar absorption features at 4430 and 2200 Å are of unusual weakness. The strength of the Hα emission requires a substantial rate of photoionization from the first excited level (n =2) of hydrogen which probably arises from a compact envelope. This is in accord with the finding that the radio emission at λ2 cm is less than 3 mJy.
