The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Multi-Channel Surface Temperature (MCST) have been calculated from NOAA Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data after their geometric rectification and calibration. Vegetation contributes to the difference between air temperature at 2 meter height and surface temperature. On the other hand the emissivity of active surface, depends, among other things, on vegetation, and it causes difference between MCST and accurate surface temperature. Relationships between NDVI and different temperature parameters have been calculated over Hungary. Results show a relatively close relationship between MCST and air temperature.
