The origin of the isolated olivine grains in carbonaceous chondrites was investigated by determining the zoning characteristics and the minor-element compositions of olivines from all the isolated and the chondrule occurrences in the ALHA77307 chondrite. The data obtained strongly suggest that, in ALHA77307, there is a genetic relationship between the isolated olivine grains and the chondrule population. Furthermore, the chondrule olivine compositions and zoning properties are consistent with the view that the isolated olivine grains were derived from chondrules and that most if not all isolated olivine grains formed due to crystallization from a liquid during chondrule formation.
