An attempt is made to discuss the reduction model of astrographic plates. Attention is given to covariance matrices of plate constants, the optimum reduction model, fictitious measurements, additional observation equations, and a test of the model by numerical simulation. Apparently, a method is derived which makes it possible to compute a desired covariance matrix that is used together with additional observation equations within a plate adjustment.
