A nondestructive technique employing a large sodium iodide gamma-ray spectrometer has been used to examine the gamma-radioactivity of iron meteorites. Of 6 studied, only Aroos and Sikhote-Alin showed detectable gamma-radioactivity. In Aroos, measured 120 days after fall, 425 ± 40 d/m/kg of 308-day Mn 54 was the predominant radioactivity detected; 5.27 year Co 60 concentrations in 4 pieces of Sikhote-Alin ranged from 207 ± 21 to 386 ± 39 d/m/kg. No gamma-ray activity in the energy range 0.2 to 2 MeV was detectable in the other 4 siderites with a limit of detection of about 10 gammas/m/kg.
