To get rid of the troubles suffered by the two constructions of the c-boundary [R. Geroch, E. H. Kronheimer, and R. Penrose, Proc. R. Soc. London A327, 545 (1972); R. Budic and R. K. Sachs, J. Math. Phys. 15, 1302 (1974)], Rácz and Szabados, respectively, suggested modified constructions [I. Rácz, Phys. Rev. D 36, 1673 (1987); L. B. Szabados, Class. Quantum Grav. 5, 121 (1988); 6, 77 (1989)]. It is shown in the present paper that each of these modifications gives an unsatisfactory topological structure near the c-boundary in some examples.
