If the luminosity of the nucleus of a galaxy in its active phase is sufficiently high, the radiation pressure may sweep gas out of the galaxy. The paper studies the gas flow due to this process under the assumption that the dust particles set in motion by the radiation immediately transmit the momentum and energy they acquire to the gas. The luminosity of the nucleus needed to sustain a steady flow is estimated.
