The physical and mechanical properties of Venusian rocks at Venera 9 and 10 landing sites are described. Television images provided information on the impact of densitometers with the Venusian surface, and the problem of interpreting densitometer data is analyzed. Direct measurements of rock properties were also obtained. The data show that the Venusian surface at Venera 9 and 10 landing sites is represented by very hard rocks and semirocks with bearing strengths of several hundred kg/sq cm. The estimated density of the rocks is 2.7 to 2.9 g/cu cm.
