It is shown that the B-V vs. HM relation for local Sc I galaxies supports a peculiar velocity about 400 km/s, the exact value depending on the model chosen for the peculiar velocity field. Both a simple dipolar velocity model and a model which involves the peculiar velocities of the reference galaxies themselves are used. The basis for the galaxy sample is explained, and the simple dipolar velocity correction is studied using a sample where the closest galaxies are not included, after which it is shown that in order to bring the closest galaxies close to the B-V vs. HM relationship, a more complicated model for the peculiar velocity field is needed. Finally, some observations on the problem of the global value of the Hubble constant are made with reference to the distance to the M101 galaxy.
