The star formation process in a system consisting of stars and interstellar clouds is considered. Two mechanisms of star formation are taken into account: cloud collision and interaction of stars and clouds. The model is described by a system of nonlinear differential equations. In the framework of the model the nonuniformity of the star formation rate occurs when interactions of stars and clouds predominate over cloud collisions. The conclusions obtained are in qualitative agreement with the results of numerical simulation of the star formation process.
